Towards Creative Version Control

Version control systems are powerful tools for managing history information and shaping personal collaborative processes. While many complex exist software engineering, basic functionality capturing versions is often found in applications such as text editors design layout tools, these not attuned to the needs behaviors of creative practitioners within those domains, fail support others. Through 18 semi-structured interviews across diverse domains creativity, we investigate how use version histories their process. With familiar paradigms features an organizing structure, discuss embrace, challenge, complicate uses four ways: using a palette materials, providing confidence freedom explore, leveraging low-fidelity capture, reflecting on reusing long time scales.
